iPad app – StripboardCAD

stripboardcad_app_iconRelease for version 1 of my new stripboard/veroboard layout app for the iPad is quickly approaching, and I’ve begun setting up support and info pages. There will be more to come, hopefully very soon 🙂

Update (09.05.2015): App has been approved and will be available in the app store starting today! 🙂

    I’ve just downloaded stripboard cad to my iPad. Is there anyway I can add to the component list. For instance I would like to add connector pins.

  3. Harold, sweet app. I had been doing strtpboard designs in PowerPoint which is so tedious. I have three requests,
    1) it would be very cool to to be able to scale capacitors because the electrolytics vary so much in size. The bigger capacitors 10 uf, 100 uf are on the order of 5-6 mil diameter.
    2) the second is to add ability to show polarity of tantalum capacitors
    3) some sort of ability to add parts you don’t have yet. I have been using ic for trim pots and rectifiers.

  4. You’re not the first to request that feature, so it’s definitely coming. I’m working on the first app-update right now, but real life keeps getting in the way. I’ll try to get that particular feature in as soon as possible.

  5. I bought the app. Great work! It’s very good.
    I haven’t noticed any bugs. 🙂

    I just wish that it was an option to show the component values directly on them insted of R1, R2 and so on. It would make it much easier to draw some layouts where the schematics are missing these component names and only show values. Will this option be added in a future update?

    I actually did add support for copying layouts, only I can’t blame you for not discovering it.
    If you go to the layout library, you can “long-press” a given layout file (or output file) to bring up a menu that allows you to, amongst other things, create a copy. This will create a separate copy with a new name (long-press again and choose “rename” if you want to change it). I.e. if you want to experiment with a layout you’re already happy with, create a copy and play with that, leaving your original intact.

  7. Hello again Harald, you’re right, the Q’s not showing up turned out to be related to the image size and list length on the single page sized export. Also, I see what you mean about deleting components, that works just perfectly.

    I have a request idea for a future update; I think it would be handy to be able to create a copy of a layout file (not the export, but the editable file), so you could have two different versions of a circuit or try out different ideas without starting from scratch or destructively modifying the first one. Like, if you’re doing Big Muff variations, you could copy one and change values or clippers or whatever. I don’t know how tough it would be to incorporate some file organization tools, just an idea.

    But I’ve been having a lot of fun, and learning a ton with this app! The workflow settings make it very quick to use. What a great tool! Thank you so much!

    1. You can delete components by sliding the corresponding parts list entry to the left (a “delete” button will appear). I plan on making it easier to delete stuff in the future.

    2. That’s actually a bug I discovered right after release. It only shows up on some layouts, I guess depending on a lot of factors like component count etc., and is a problem with the layout-to-page processing. This is first on my list for the next version as I find it very annoying myself.

  9. Congratulations! I have been very curious about this project for a long time. You released it just in time for my layout for the Supa Tonebender I traced for my friend. I’m vey impressed! The app is easy to use and quite intuitive.
    Two things though, is there a way to delete unneeded components (other than undo)? And, it looks like Q’s don’t show up in the build list, or else I’m doing it wrong. But I love the build list, it makes it very easy; listing the transistor values via the “notes” function works fine for now, so no worries.
    Anyway, thank you for all you do, I’ve learned so much at your site, and this app wonderful, a much-needed tool.
